Bingua

Learn a language from real video.

Bingua teaches languages through real video. You scroll a feed of videos in the language you're learning, each with a dual-language transcript that scrolls in time with the audio. Tap any word for an instant translation and explanation, swipe a line to break down the whole sentence, and save anything worth remembering — saved words and sentences become flashcards that come back for review just before you'd forget them, and feed a ten-question quiz with listening and speaking practice.

Bingua is an app for iPhone and iPad. It is a paid subscription with no advertising, no third-party tracking and no screen recording. Signing in with Google or Apple is optional — it exists so your flashcards, progress and subscription follow you to a new device.

What you get

Support

Need help with something?

Your subscription

How do I cancel?

Subscriptions are managed by Apple, not inside Bingua. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings → your name → Subscriptions, tap Bingua, then tap Cancel Subscription.

Deleting the app does not cancel your subscription, and neither does deleting your Bingua account. You have to cancel through Settings.

How do I restore a subscription I already paid for?

Open Bingua and tap Restore Purchases on the subscription screen. This is what you want after reinstalling the app or setting up a new device.

Restoring works from the Apple ID that made the original purchase. If you subscribed on a different Apple ID, sign in to that one first. Creating a Bingua account and signing in on both devices is the reliable way to carry a subscription — and your flashcards — between them.

Is there a free trial?

The yearly plan includes a 7-day free trial. The monthly plan does not. If you don't cancel before the trial ends it converts to a paid subscription automatically, so cancel at least 24 hours before it runs out if you don't want to continue.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled entirely by Apple — we can't issue them ourselves. Use Apple's Report a Problem page, sign in with your Apple ID, find Bingua, and request a refund. If you're in the EU you also have a statutory 14-day right of withdrawal, which you exercise against Apple as the seller.

What do I get for subscribing?

Both plans give identical, complete access: every language in the app, unlimited word and sentence explanations, unlimited flashcards, the spaced-repetition review deck, and the full quiz. The yearly plan is simply cheaper per month and carries the trial.

Your account

Do I need an account?

No. Bingua works without one and keeps your data on your device. An account exists so your flashcards, progress and settings sync between devices — and it's the only way to carry a subscription to a new device.

How do I delete my account?

In the app, go to Profile → Delete account. This permanently removes your account and your synced data from our servers. It does not cancel your subscription — cancel that separately in Settings, as described above.

I forgot my password

On the sign-in screen, choose the password-reset option and enter your email. We'll send you a verification code to set a new password. If the email doesn't arrive within a few minutes, check your spam folder before trying again.

Troubleshooting

A video won't play

Videos play through YouTube's own player, so a video occasionally becomes unavailable when its owner changes its settings or removes it. Bingua notices this and skips past those videos automatically — just scroll on to the next one. If no videos play at all, check your internet connection first, then close and reopen the app.

The transcript is missing or out of sync

Every video in the feed is supposed to have a transcript, and videos without one are filtered out. If you hit a video where the transcript looks wrong or badly timed, please use the report button (the flag icon) on that video — those reports are how bad entries get removed from the catalogue.

Tapping a word shows an error

Explanations are generated when you ask for them, so they need an internet connection. If one fails, tap again — occasional failures are usually transient. If it keeps failing on every word, please email us.

Speaking practice isn't working

Speaking questions need microphone and speech-recognition permission. If you declined either, open Settings → Bingua on your device and enable Microphone and Speech Recognition. Everything else in Bingua works without them.

I'm not getting reminders

Reminders need notification permission. Check Settings → Bingua → Notifications on your device, and make sure reminders are also switched on in Bingua under Profile. Bingua only sends local reminders you've asked for — there are no marketing notifications.

Which languages can I learn?

Open the language picker in the app for the current list — we add languages as their video libraries are ready. English is the translation language throughout.

Privacy and your data

Bingua collects as little as it can. There is no advertising and no third-party tracking, and we never record your screen. Usage analytics can be switched off entirely at any time under Profile → Privacy → Share usage data.

Full detail, including what we send to our AI provider and how long anything is kept, is in the Privacy Policy.
